The Rho Chapter of the Epsilon Pi Tau (ΕΠΤ) Honor Society in Technology is dedicated to representing and supporting Engineering Technology (ETech) students in both Manufacturing and Networking at San Jose State University. Led by honor student officers, we provide tutoring, peer support, and resources that foster academic excellence while enhancing practical skills through research projects. Beyond academics, we serve as the collective voice of ETech students, addressing concerns such as class availability, scheduling, and program development with the Department of Aviation and Technology. We also enrich our members’ educational journeys by offering scholarships and opportunities to participate in professional conferences, building a strong foundation for success in the technology field. By combining academic support, student advocacy, and professional growth, the Rho Chapter empowers students to realize their full potential and prepares them for future success in the industry.
Epsilon Pi Tau was established in 1929. It is a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) educational organization incorporated in the state of Ohio. As the premier academic and professional honors group for higher education technology and workforce programs and professionals in practice, Epsilon Pi Tau has provided honor and distinction to members, institutions, programs, and individuals throughout the world for more than 95 years.
The Rho Chapter of the honorary Epsilon Pi Tau was founded at San Jose State College (now San Jose State University) in 1938, replacing the old Iota Sigma Phi (Industrial Arts Honor Fraternity), when Dr. Heber A. Sotzin was the department head of the Industrial Arts department. Since then, many department heads, trustees, and faculty members have come, served, and gone.
EPT has been the primary honor society for the Technology programs. It is believed that this chapter has inducted thousands of honor students since its founding. Many of its current members still live in the San Jose and Bay Area communities. Initiation into the honorary was regarded as something reserved for the esteemed few.
